Brigitte Bardot, 73, has http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=4271 been convicted of “racism.” Sued by MRAP, the LDH and SOS Racism, the former French movie star was convicted for the fifth time for “inciting to discrimination or to racial hatred” towards Muslims. MRAP is the Movement Against Racism and for Friendship Among Peoples, LDH is the League of Human Rights. LICRA is the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism.

Bardot was fined 15,000 euros for having written a letter to Nicolas Sarkozy in which she demanded that the animals sacrificed by Muslims for the Eid al-Kebir holiday be anesthetized: “Enough of being led by the nose by this population who is destroying us, destroying our country.”An article in Le Monde provides more details: The court did not comply with the prosecutor’s request for two months in prison, in addition to the 15,000 euros, but it did order the publication of the verdict in L’Info-Journal. Bardot will also have to pay 1,500 euros in damages to MRAP, one symbolic euro to the LDH and to LICRA, and 1,500 euros towards the cost of the trial.

From a reader: The http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2616 MRAP has roots as far back as 1941, and has long been seen as a front for far left demagogues. In fact its present leader is the only person to hold the office who is not a member of the once powerful Communist Party of France.

LICRA is even older, having been founded in 1927 as a support group for a Jewish murderer named Sholom Schwartzbard.

Both groups stoke a http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2497 of intolerance, intimidation and violence that makes nationalist dissent dangerous in France, as it is across Europe.
